new capabilities
We’re always working to improve Excel and its built-in features.
CONCAT
This new feature is superior than CONCATENATE. It is first of all shorter and simpler to type. But in addition to cell references, it also allows range references. Become familiar with CONCAT.
IFS
Sick of typing nested, difficult IF functions? The answer is the IFS function. Conditions are tested using this function in the order you provide. The outcome is returned if passed. If none of the requirements are satisfied, you may additionally include another “catch all” clause. Become familiar with IFS.
MAXIFS
This method returns the biggest integer that satisfies one or more criteria out of a range. Become familiar with MAXIFS.
MINIFS
In contrast to MAXIFS, this method returns the lowest value in a range that satisfies one or more requirements. Become familiar with MINIFS.
SWITCH
This method delivers the first result that matches an expression after comparing it to an ordered list of values. The “else” statement is returned if no results match. Study up on SWITCH.
TEXTJOIN
This method mixes text from many ranges, with a delimiter that you provide used to separate each item. Study up on TEXTJOIN.
New charts
The maps
To compare statistics and display categories across geographical areas, you may make a map chart. Utilize it if your data contains geographic areas such as countries/regions, states, counties, or postal codes. Here is a short movie showing a map chart.
Channel diagrams
Funnel diagrams display values at various phases of a process. A funnel chart, for instance, might be used to display the amount of sales prospects at each step of a sales pipeline. The numbers often fall gradually, giving the bars the appearance of a funnel.(features in Excel in Microsoft Office 2019)
improved visuals

Ink improvements
We introduced Inking features in Office 2016, but we’re constantly improving, and adding features.
effects of fresh ink
Use metallic ink and pens to add flair to your ideas with effects like rainbow, galaxy, lava, ocean, gold, and more.
Electronic Pencil
Use our new pencil texture to write or draw out your ideas.
portable, individualized pen set
Make your own customized pen collection. On all of your Windows-based devices, Office remembers your pen settings in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
written equations
It is now much simpler to include mathematical equations. Now, if you wish to put a challenging math equation in your worksheet, simply select Insert > Equation > Ink Equation. If you have a touch device, you can write math equations by hand using your finger or a touch stylus, and Excel will transform them to text. (A mouse can also be used if you don’t have a touch device.) Additionally, as you go, you may delete, choose, and edit what you’ve written.
New Ink Replay button
Using ink in your spreadsheets? Now you can replay or rewind your ink to better understand the flow of it. Or your peers can replay it to get step-by-step instructions. You’ll find Ink Replay on the Draw tab. Give it a try!
Right at your fingertips, Lasso Select
A new free-form tool for choosing ink in Excel is called Lasso Select. An ink drawing may be selected by dragging with the tool, and then you can edit that item as you choose. See Draw and write with ink in Office for further details.
ink drawings into forms
You may choose an inking style and begin annotating with ink on your touch-enabled device using the Draw tab. These ink marks can, however, also be turned into forms. Just choose Convert to Shapes after you have selected them. In this manner, you may combine the adaptability and standardization of Office graphic forms with the liberties of freeform art. See Draw and write with ink in Office for additional information about inking in Office.
The Surface pen may be used to choose and modify things.
You can choose a region in Excel with a Surface pen without even pressing the selection tool on the ribbon. Simply draw a selection with the pen by pressing the barrel button on the pen. The ink item may then be rotated, resized, or moved with the pen. See Draw and write with ink in Office for further details.(features in Excel in Microsoft Office 2019)
better features for accessibility
Simple solutions for accessibility problems
With improved support for international standards and helpful tips to make your papers more accessible, the accessibility checker is better than ever.
Accessibility is improved by helpful noises
Enable auditory cues so you may be guided while working.
It’s easy to share.
Add current connections
Easily generate relevant display names for screen reader users and connect hyperlinks to current cloud-based files or webpages. Select any file from the list of recently used files in the Insert tab’s Link drop-down menu to create a link to it.
View shared worksheets to see changes and roll them back.
Easily recover prior versions of shared workbooks and quickly see who has made modifications. View previous versions of Office files for further details.
Save immediately to recent folders
Our clients overwhelmingly requested this feature: You may save to a list of frequently accessed folders by choosing File > Save As > Recent.
an enhanced autocomplete
Excel autocomplete is less fussy than it once was. Let’s imagine, for instance, that you wish to utilize the NETWORKDAYS function but are unable to recall how to spell it. Simply typing =DAYS will trigger the autocomplete menu to display any functions that include “DAYS,” including NETWORKDAYS. Previously, the function name had to be spelled out precisely.
Fresh themes
There are now three office themes available: White, Dark Gray, and Colorful. Go to File > Options > General and select Office Theme from the drop-down menu to access these themes.
Black color
The Office theme with the biggest contrast has come. Go to File > Account, then select Office Theme from the drop-down box to change your Office theme. All of your Office programs will use the theme you select. Change the appearance and feel of Office for Windows with Office themes for more information about office themes.
Remove linguistic barriers
Use Microsoft Translator to translate words, phrases, or sentences into another language. This may be done via the Ribbon’s Review tab.
One word in English and its translation in French are provided via the translator button.
When saving a CSV file, there are no alerts.
Keep in mind this caution. There’s a chance that this file has CSV-incompatible features. You asked for it, after all! We won’t display this any more when saving a CSV file.
CSV (UTF-8) assistance
UTF-8 character encoding-enabled CSV files may now be opened and saved. File > Save As > Browse should be used. Then select CSV UTF-8 from the Save as type selection by clicking it (Comma delimited). Compared to Excel’s current CSV option, CSV UTF-8 is a widely used file format that allows more characters (ANSI). Why does this matter? Better non-English data support and simpler data transfer to other programs.
Excel’s Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
Outlook’s Data Loss Protection (DLP) function is a highly valued corporate feature. To allow real-time content scanning based on a set of predefined policies for the most popular sensitive data categories, we are introducing DLP in Excel (e.g., credit card number, social security number, and US bank account number). As a result of this functionality, companies will have uniform policies for material saved in Exchange, SharePoint, and OneDrive for Business as well as the option to synchronize DLP rules from Office 365 in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Improvements to PivotTable
Because of its well-known PivotTable writing environment, Excel is renowned for its versatile and powerful analytical experiences. This experience was much improved with Excel 2010 and Excel 2013 with the addition of Power Pivot and the Data Model, allowing you to quickly and easily construct sophisticated models across your data, enrich them with measurements and KPIs, and then quickly compute over millions of rows. Here are some of the improvements we made so you may concentrate more on finding the important insights and less on maintaining your data.(features in Excel in Microsoft Office 2019)
Customize the built-in PivotTable layout.
PivotTables may be set up as you desire. Select the subtotal and grand total displays, as well as the report structure, and save your preference. You will begin with that arrangement when you construct a PivotTable the following time.
Detecting relationships automatically
discovers and builds associations between the tables that make up the data model for your worksheet so that you don’t have to. When two or more tables need to be connected together for your analysis, Excel lets you know and prompts you to do so. It creates the associations with only one click, allowing you to benefit from them right now.
Custom measure creation, modification, and deletion
Now, you can add extra calculations for your analysis right from the PivotTable fields list, saving you a ton of time.
automatic grouping of times
By automatically recognizing and combining time-related data (year, quarter, and month), it enables you to use your PivotTable more effectively. Drag the group to your PivotTable once it has been grouped, then start your analysis across the various levels of time with drill-down options.
buttons for drill-down in PivotChart
enables you to adjust the zoom level across different time-based groups and other hierarchical structures within your data.(features in Excel in Microsoft Office 2019)
In the pivot table, search
You may quickly access the fields in your whole data set that are most significant to you using the field list.
shrewd rename
allows you to change the names of the tables and columns in the data model of your worksheet. Each time you make a change, Excel updates all associated tables, computations, worksheets, and DAX formulae across your workbook.
several usability enhancements
likewise been produced. For instance, delayed updating enables you to work with Power Pivot numerous times without having to wait for each change to be propagated across the worksheet. Once the Power Pivot window is closed, the modifications will be propagated all at once.
Multiple selection Slicer
In an Excel Slicer on a touch tablet, numerous things can be selected. This is a shift from earlier iterations of Excel, where touch input could only be used to pick one item at a time from a Slicer. By pressing the new button found in the Slicer’s label, you may access the Slicer’s multi-select mode.
Put data into Power BI
You may now publish locally saved files to Power BI if you subscribe to the service. Save your file to your computer before beginning. click File > Publish > Publish to Power BI, and after that. To see the file in your web browser after uploading, click the Go To Power BI button.
Query Power (formerly Get & Transform)
This section includes updates to Power Query (formerly Get & Transform).
Enhanced and new connections
New connections are available in Excel 2019. Consider the brand-new SAP HANA connection. We have also enhanced several of our current connections to make it easier and more efficient for you to import data from a number of sources. See Import data from other data sources for additional details on our connections.
more effective transformations
The majority of the data transformation functions in the Power Query Editor have been greatly enhanced in Excel 2019. Improvements include, for instance, the ability to split columns, insert custom columns, and add columns from an example. Additionally, filtering transformations, merge and append procedures, and others are improved.(Excel in Microsoft Office 2019)
broader enhancements
Additionally, the Get & Transform section of Excel 2019 has seen some basic enhancements. The new Queries & Connections side pane, which makes it simple to handle queries and connections, is one noticeable enhancement. Additionally, there have been several enhancements made to the Power Query Editor, such as “select-as-you-type” drop-down menus, date picker support for conditional columns and date filters, drag-and-drop query step reordering, and the ability to maintain the layout in Excel while refreshing. See the article About Power Query in Excel for a broad overview of how to use Get & Transform.
