Microsoft Office 2016 Office (also known as Office 16) is the productivity suite’s latest release, replacing Office 2013 and Office for Mac 2011. On July 9, 2015, it was made available to Office 365 customers on OS X. On September 22, 2015, the OS X and Windows version with a perpetual license was made available. This is the final version of Microsoft Office that is compatible with Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows Server 2016. Its replacement, Office 2019, only supports Windows 10 or Windows Server 2019.

The latest version of Windows has several new capabilities, including as the ability to create, read, edit, and save files in the cloud directly from the desktop, a new “Tell Me” search tool for commands found in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, and real-time co-authoring with users of Office Online. Other smaller features include a data loss prevention feature in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, new chart types in Excel (such as treemap, sunburst chart (also known as a ring chart), waterfall chart, box plot, and histogram), and Insights, a feature powered by Bing to provide contextual information from the web.
Additionally, with the 2016 edition of Office, Microsoft eliminated the option to run multiple instances of the software. An installation feature will look for any earlier versions and delete them, disabling outdated components from functioning. for instance, Outlook 2013/2010 and Publisher 2016.
An overhauled user interface that includes ribbons, complete support for Retina Display, and new sharing tools for Office documents are among the new features in the Mac version.
Word now has a new Design tab, a Bing-powered Insights tool, and real-time co-authoring. PivotTable Slicers and Recommended Charts are both features in Excel. Theme variations in PowerPoint offer many color schemes for a given theme. The Propose New Time function, the ability to compare calendars side by side, and the inclusion of a weather forecast in the calendar view are all features of Outlook.
There is relatively no support for synchronizing collaborative services other than standard email in Outlook 2016 for Mac.
